The Premier League club feels it necessary for the rescue operation in the Channel to be concluded and for both the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) and the police to conclude their investigations, before any payments are made.

On January 21, Sala was travelling from Nantes to Wales with pilot David Ibbotson, but the aircraft lost contact near Guernsey.

The body is being taken to Portland to be passed over to the Dorset coroner for examination, the AAIB added.

The light aircraft was later discovered lying in the bottom of the English channel after days of endless search for the missing player and pilot.

'The body is now being taken to Portland to be passed into the care of the Dorset Coroner, ' a statement read.

However, due to poor weather conditions the wreckage of the plane has not been recovered and the operation has been brought to a close.

French club Bourdeaux will receive around 50 per cent of the fee as Sala played for the club between 2012-15 before joining Nantes.

It is understood Cardiff have not yet paid any of the £15m fee for the Argentine striker.

Cardiff have been threatened with legal action by Nantes over their failure to pay the first instalment of the £15 million transfer fee agreed for Emiliano Sala.
