Australian police arrest man after Brisbane airport evacuated over bomb threat

There was locked down at the Brisbane worldwide airport in Australia on Sunday after a man flaunted a knife and made a bomb threat at a food court.

Police said in addition to the evacuation, airport trains were also suspended.

The incident caused major disruption at Australia's third largest airport, which was shut for more than two hours.

Police have released an image of the fake bomb found during the Brisbane Airport lockdown.

He then chased the woman, a family member, while brandishing the knife, witnesses told Brisbane's The Sunday Mail.

Commissioner Ian Stewart told reporters yesterday the accused man had gone to "extraordinary lengths" to create a perception of "risk, threat and fear". Queensland police assistant commissioner Peter Crawford said the man had suffered a "health issue" during the charging process. "Nothing explosive was located", he said.

Despite leaving Molineux on crutches, Arnautovic is expected to be fit for the game, after it was revealed he only suffered bruising to his foot.

The incident ended when police shot the man with non-lethal beanbag rounds, after which he surrendered to the officers.

"I have absolutely no doubt that it was an absolutely terrifying experience for those that saw that".

Eyewitnesses on the Gold Coast shared photos on social media of tanks from the Explosive Ordinance Response Team, or bomb squad, arriving at the Bruce Bishop auto park, where it's understood the man detained at Brisbane Airport has his vehicle parked.

"There is no evidence to suggest the incident at the worldwide airport is terrorism related; it is a domestic violence-related situation", police told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

The alleged offender was known to police prior to last night's incident and is of Middle Eastern descent.
