Two people died and two others were injured when a small aircraft crashed into a residential area in Yorba Linda, California.

The small plane crashed shortly after departing from the Fullerton Municipal Airport, an FAA spokesman told local media.

It is still unclear whether or not the pilot is one of the deceased.

Video from a witness shows at least one two-story home engulfed in flames as neighbors looked on.

The aircraft has been identified as a Cessna 414A and had departed the Fullerton Municipal Airport when it went down before 2 p.m. local time.

The Orange County Fire Authority says it crashed into a single family home, igniting a fire.

The second engine dislodged and fell on to the street, creating a large hole in the asphalt, according to Eliott Simpson, an aviation accident investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board.

He didn't know whether the people killed were on board the plane or on the ground.

There's no information so far regarding why the plane crashed.
