Huawei and its CFO Wanzhou Ming charged with financial crimes by US Justice Department

A separate indictment from Washington state accuses Huawei, its USA affiliate, Skycom and Meng, of stealing trade secrets from the telecommunications company T-Mobile.

He said the 13 counts of bank and wire fraud relate to Huawei's claim that its affiliate operating in Iran, Skycom, was a separate, unrelated company.

David Martin, Meng's lawyer in Canada, didn't immediately respond to messages seeking comment. Meng and Huawei deny any wrongdoing. Ltd., to bypass sanctions placed against Iran. United States of America include theft of trade secrets, conspiracy, attempted theft of trade secrets, seven counts of wire fraud, and one count of obstruction of justice.

Huawei and its chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou were charged with fraud on Monday by U.S. prosecutors over their alleged sanction-busting dealings with an Iranian subsidiary.

Today, thanks to the unsealing of two indictments, we're learning that the US DOJ has officially charged Huawei with a series of federal crimes. The charges against Meng, which include bank and wire fraud, were not unsealed until Monday.

During the meeting, Meng used a PowerPoint presentation that misrepresented Huawei operations in Iran and ownership and control of Skycom, according to the indictment. A grand jury in the Eastern District of NY returned charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice against Huawei and Huawei USA. President Donald Trump said he would get involved in the Huawei case if it would help produce a trade agreement with China.

Canadian officials arrested Meng on a U.S. warrant on December 1.

"For years, Chinese firms have broken our export laws and undermined sanctions, often using the USA financial system to facilitate their illegal activities", Wilbur Ross, the commerce secretary, said.

"These are very serious actions by a company that appears to be using corporate espionage and sanctions violations to not only enhance, potentially, their bottom line, but also to compete in the world economy", Whitaker said.

The Justice Department views Meng's criminal case as separate from the trade issues.

Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker says the department is proceeding with its extradition efforts against Meng, who was detained December 1 at the request of the US upon arriving at the airport in Vancouver. While in a Vancouver courthouse to discuss her bail, a lawyer with Canada's Justice Department alleged she defrauded U.S. banks into making transactions that violated those sanctions, according to Bloomberg.
