Norfolk police responded to the crash, near the Royal Family's Sandringham Estate in eastern England, shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday after the Land Rover driven by the Queen's 97-year-old husband collided with a Kia.

On doctor's advice, Philip visited the hospital on Friday morning for a "precautionary check-up".

The Duke of Edinburgh's auto accident, which left two people needing hospital treatment, will be "investigated and any appropriate action taken", Norfolk Constabulary has said.

Witnesses told media the accident had occurred when Philip was pulling out of a driveway onto a main road, with pictures from the scene showing Philip's Land Rover overturned on the side of the road.

Speaking about Philip's vehicle, eye-witness Roy Warne told the BBC: "I saw it careering, tumbling across the road and ending up on the other side".

The duke appeared to be travelling without a police protection officer, individuals who guard all senior members of the Royal Family when at public and private events.

Meanwhile the duke continued to compete in demanding carriage driving competitions into his 80s, and has previously pulled muscles in his back while driving his horse-drawn carriage.

Nick Freeman, the lawyer dubbed Mr Loophole, said the duke could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention if he was deemed to have made a mistake.

Norfolk Constabulary said in a statement: "As is standard procedure with injury collisions, the incident will be investigated and any appropriate action taken".

The duke has also made contact with the driver and passenger of the other auto, who were injured, and sent his "best wishes".

Theresa May's Brexit deal defeated in Commons vote
A major issue in the pre-Brexit wrangling has been around the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The border at the moment is invisible, and people, goods and services can travel through it freely.

Philip still drives himself around Sandringham and Windsor Castle and is known to prefer the Land Rover Freelander 2.

Cobb and his teenage daughter were driving past when they saw the accident about 100 yards from their home.

"It was turning on its side over and over", he reportedly said.

Police officers are seen at the scene where Britain's Prince Philip was involved in a traffic accident. Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today, he said: "I went to the black vehicle to help and realised it was the Duke of Edinburgh".

The Prince has since returned to Sandringham. He told BBC Radio Four's, Today program, "I asked him to move his left leg and that freed his right leg and I helped him to get out".

Buckingham Palace officials said Friday that Philip has a valid driver's license and has complied with all Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency requirements.

The driver of the Kia and her passenger were taken to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and later discharged.

Retired barrister Roy Warne and grandfather Glenn Watson bravely rushed to help Philip out of the wreckage.

"But it will be the Queen, she'll be the only person that can really tell him".

The United Kingdom requires drivers older than 70 to renew their license every three years.
