Trump makes his case for securing southern border

"Rubio also said he would have liked Trump, during his Oval Office address Tuesday, to clarify the $5.7 billion he wants for border security funding would not be for a wall or for a loan, but instead would be "$5 billion to fund the top 10 projects on a border security program by the experts and the people in charge of doing that". There is an obvious solution: separate the shutdown from the arguments over border security.

In his dire address, Trump ticked off a string of statistics and claims to make his case that there is a crisis at the border, but a number of his statements were misleading, such as saying the new trade deal with Mexico would pay for the wall, or suggesting through gruesome examples that immigrants are more likely to commit crimes.

Trump will visit the Capitol on Wednesday to meet with Senate Republicans, and has invited Democratic and Republican congressional leaders to return to the White House to meet with him later that day. Chuck Schumer that President Trump had a frustrated outburst in their meeting Wednesday to try and resolve the partial government shutdown.

"In the House we are taking up Senate-passed bills, Republican bills, and we are passing them one by one by one", he said. No president should pound the table and demand he gets his way or else the government shuts down, hurting millions of Americans who are treated as leverage. People expect their government to work.

"I just think that using money that is earmarked for our military at a time when our military needs the money that they have to rebuild after eight years of neglect by the Obama administration is not the best way to do this".

"Much of what we've heard from president Trump during this senseless shutdown has been full of misinformation and even malice". I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier?

Nationals Rumors: Nats still in on Bryce Harper after December meeting
The Athletic's Jim Bowden tweeted last night that the Nationals latest offer to Harper was actually " much more " than the $300MM commonly quoted.

Democrats now are limiting the security measures they back to sending more customs officials and deploying new technology at the 48 ports of entry or border crossings where cars and trucks line up to seek legal entry into the U.S.

WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 08: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) pose for photographs after delivering a televised response to President Donald Trump's national address about border security at the U.S. Capitol January 08, 2019 in Washington, DC.

Trump did not mention that idea Tuesday night.

"Yes", Schlapp said when pressed by CNN's Jim Sciutto about taxpayers paying for the wall. But Trump has not budged on his demands for $5.7 billion in wall funding, and Democrats have not moved from their opposition, while many Republicans watch anxiously from the sidelines.

"I prefer that we get this resolved the old-fashioned way", Thune said.

"They continue to want to argue", McCarthy said. But Trump was not expected to make that declaration Tuesday night, said two people familiar with the White House plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Some say Trump's hardline policies are slowing processing for migrants, creating an overwhelming bottleneck at the border.
