Ownership could open their wallets and sign a star free agent and find a way to fit said superstar into the lineup, but why waste more money when there are some guys already not earning their pay on the roster?

With Corbin being from NY and growing up a Yankees fans, it's hard to imagine him signing with another team if the crew from the Bronx is interested.

-The New York Mets introduced second baseman Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz during a press conference at Citi Field, one day after completing a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Mariners. Corbin is the latest of a rather long list of new arrivals in Washington that includes catchers Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes and relievers Kyle Barraclough and Trevor Rosenthal. A starting rotation consisting of Nola, Arrieta, Happ, Eflin and maybe Pivetta with Velasquez in the bullpen could be formidable in the NL East.

The Post's Joel Sherman reported that the Yankees had been steadfast on a five-year deal for Corbin.

US, China agree not to raise tariffs on Chinese goods
Meanwhile, the USA stood alone as the 19 other countries again pledged to implement the Paris accord to fight climate change . The White House said Xi, "in a wonderful humanitarian gesture", had agreed to designate fentanyl a controlled substance.

Therefore, if they are hesitant to overpay for an older pitcher, Philly could turn their attention to a former A.L. Cy Young award victor. Strasburg is averaging less than 25 starts per season over the last four years. The Sox might have missed out on one of their targets for the offseason but its still early and they have time to go after other players.

Basically, the Red Sox won (again) Thursday when Corbin reportedly agreed to sign with the Nationals because it kept him away from the Yankees (or another American League contender). He posted a record of 12-11 with an ERA of 3.74, which not bad by most standards. He had a 3.81 ERA in 111 innings and impressed during Boston's postseason run.

The signing of Corbin - who had drawn interest from the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies, among other clubs, and was expected to draw offers of at least $20 million a year - could be a signal that the Nationals are moving on from Harper. He went 2-1 with two holds and a 1.61 ERA over 22.1 innings in the playoffs.
