Congress isn't done with Michael Cohen.

President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty Thursday to lying to Congress over the ongoing Russia investigation in connection with a Moscow real-estate deal and Russian contacts pursued during the 2016 election.

He also criticized Cohen, saying he was "a weak person and what he's trying to do is get a reduced sentence".

In the interview with the Post, Trump likened the Russian Federation probe to Sen.

"These developments make clear that my colleagues and I must step in and provide accountability", said Nadler (D-NY).

He noted that Cohen's crimes - like many of Mueller's indictments - are seemingly "unrelated to the Trump campaign".

Then on Thursday, local time, Cohen appeared in a NY court room and confessed to misleading Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

Once known as Trump's "pit bull" and right-hand man, Cohen was privy to multi-million-dollar deals and payments to two alleged lovers - whose claims could have potentially sabotaged his boss's 2016 election.

Cohen told told two congressional committees a year ago that the talks about the tower project ended that January, a lie he said was an act of loyalty to Trump.

The Mueller investigation has cast a cloud over the current American administration. He has said the project was in its early stages in the fall of 2015, as Trump's presidential campaign heated up.

When asked why he would hire Cohen if he's an untrustworthy and weak person, Trump said "a long time ago, he did me a favor".

Trump issued an executive order earlier this month barring migrants who sneak across the border from filing asylum claims . But while some are giving up their dream, others are just arriving, further stretching resources at makeshift camps.

"Individual 1" is, as the document points out, who Cohen worked for at a Manhattan-based real estate company.

What has he told Mr Mueller about that fateful Trump Tower meeting in which members of the Trump campaign team met Russians promising dirt on Hillary Clinton?

The US says the emails were hacked by Russian intelligence which supplied them to WikiLeaks, aiming to tilt the election in Trump's favor.

Reacting to the plea, House Speaker Paul Ryan said Cohen "should be prosecuted to the extent of the law".

Whitaker was advised of the plea ahead of time, according to a person familiar with the investigation.

"These false statements regarding the continued pursuit of a Moscow-Trump Tower deal during much of the presidential campaign only underscore the importance of a thorough investigation into any financial entanglement between Trump and Russian Federation", he said.

The president will hope that Cohen's tarnished reputation and complicated legal affairs will be enough to dent his credibility as a witness. "Sentencing is set for December 12", said Guy Petrillo, another of Cohen's lawyers.

Sources close to the Trump Organization told ABC News all documents related to communications on any Moscow projects were turned over to Congress, and company officials are confident the testimony given by members of the Trump family and Trump employees was consistent with the facts.

The charges were handled by Mueller's team, not the federal prosecutors in NY who handled Cohen's previous guilty plea in August to other federal charges involving his taxi businesses, bank fraud and his campaign work for Trump.

Trump Jr. testified that he knew "very little" about the deal. He previously worked in the Canberra press gallery and recently finished a Masters of Journalism at Columbia University in NY.
