"As Saudi public prosecutor, you have to ask that question, so you can reveal it", Erdoğan told reporters in Ankara, shortly after the head of the Saudi investigation, Attorney General Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb, entered the diplomatic compound.

It is the first public confirmation by a Turkish official that The Washington Post columnist was strangled and dismembered, but Mr Fidan said no "concrete results" had come of his discussions with Mr al Mojeb regarding who ordered the killing. Khashoggi - a fierce critic of Riyadh's human rights violations and of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's policies - disappeared after entering the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul on October 2 for the paperwork needed for his planned marriage.

Istanbul's chief prosecutor Irfan Fidan released a statement on Wednesday, saying Jamal Khashoggi's body was dismembered after he was strangled and then destroyed.

A top Turkish prosecutor said earlier in the day that journalist Jamal Khashoggi (jah-MAHL' khahr-SHOHK'-jee) was strangled as soon as he entered the consulate on October 2 and his body was dismembered before it was removed.

The Saudi prosecutor arrived in Istanbul on Sunday.

After vehement denials that Riyadh was involved in Khashoggi's disappearance, Saudi officials admitted Oct.19 that the dissident was killed inside the building.

The Turkish fiancee of Jamal Khashoggi called on U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders late Monday to ensure that the journalist's killing at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul was not covered up.

But President Donald Trump has ruled out major actions such as ending arms sales to the kingdom, the largest foreign buyer of USA weapons. He also held a second meeting with Fidan and visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

The Saudi side has reportedly invited the Istanbul chief prosecutor to Saudi Arabia along with the evidence collected during the investigation.

The prosecutor, Irfan Fidan, on October 31 also said that Khashoggi's body was disposed of following the killing almost a month ago but that his remains have still not been located.

"Saudi officials need to reveal the local co-operators There is no point trying to save some people from under this".

Khashoggi's death has brought near unprecedented worldwide scrutiny on Saudi Arabia and its powerful crown prince.
