Key US allies 'temporarily' halt campaign against ISIS in Syria following clashes with Turkey

"We will prevail over terrorist groups with more effective operations", - said the Turkish leader.

The SDF on Wednesday said it would temporarily halt its campaign against ISIS in protest over continued Turkish aggression in the Kobani region.

The YPG militia posted a video on Twitter of what appeared to be a Turkish military vehicle being destroyed by a guided missile.

Serhat Erkmen, a military expert at the Gendarmerie and Coast Guard Academy of Turkey, thinks that Turkish armed forces are targeting the ammunition depots and hideouts of the YPG that were already identified. "We have completed preparations and plans regarding this issue", Erdogan said in a speech to lawmakers from his ruling AK Party on Tuesday. "In the near future will be held a more large-scale and effective operation to neutralize the terrorists", he added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group and SDF spokesman Kino Gabriel said Turkish forces shelled and fired on an area near the Syrian town of Tel Abyad on the Turkish border. The attendees - the leaders of France, Germany, Turkey and Russian Federation - notably "reaffirmed their strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic" in a joint statement, which many observers saw as a not-so-subtle acknowledgement of the victory of Syrian President Bashar Assad, widely accused of war crimes. There are about 2,000 US Special Forces in Syria advising the SDF, as well as several hundred French troops.

Ankara considers the militia a terror threat and an extension of Kurdish rebels waging an insurgency within Turkey.

Syria's Foreign Ministry is complaining to the United Nations about airstrikes carried out by the US -led coalition against the Islamic State group citing new mass graves discovered.

As part of the roadmap, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu at the time said the agreement would ensure the YPG leaves Manbij, then Turkey and the U.S. would work together to establish a local security structure and decide who will govern the city.

Turkish and coalition military forces have conducted over 60 independent, coordinated patrols outside of Manbij since June 2018.

"After Manbij, our next venue will be east of the Euphrates", Akar pointed out. The continuation of Turkish attacks, the group said, would further delay the offensive on the ISIS-held pocket of Hajin. Kurdish units liberated Manbij from Daesh* in 2016. Turkey had repeatedly threatened to attack the town despite the presence of U.S. forces in the area.

The United States and Turkey kicked off on Thursday joint patrols of the northern Syrian city of Manbij, announced Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, according to state-run news agency Anadolu. It also envisions Kurdish YPG forces withdrawing from the town to the east of the Euphrates.

A Turkish armored personnel carrier is struck by a missile on Wednesday. This week, Erdogan said: "The terror organization is digging trenches, they are preparing their graves".
