MEXICO BORDER: Trump deploys 5,200 soldiers over migrant influx

Trump said the United States would build "tent cities" to house migrants seeking asylum, rather than releasing them while they await court decisions.

The massive deployment marks a sharp increase from initial estimates last week, when United States officials said about 800 active-duty troops would head south.

He is expected to hold 11 rallies in the days ahead of the November 6 midterms, which Washington pundits are characterizing as a referendum on his presidency.

The Pentagon's "Operation Faithful Patriot" was described by the commander of U.S. Northern Command as an effort to help Customs and Border Protection "harden the southern border" by stiffening defenses at and near legal entry points.

The deployment will create an active-duty force comparable in size to the US military contingent in Iraq, as Trump's administration draws attention to a caravan of migrants that is trekking through Mexico toward the United States. Advanced helicopters will allow border protection agents to swoop down on migrants trying to cross illegally, said Air Force Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy.

Children of migrants wait for a ride near Tapanatepec, Mexico, as their caravan continues toward the US border, October 29, 2018.

Many in the caravan have been on the road for more than two weeks, since the group first formed in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.Raul Medina Melendez, security chief for the tiny municipality in Oaxaca state, said the town was distributing sandwiches and water to migrants camped in the central square Saturday night when a man with a megaphone asked people to wait their turn. Some hurled insults at the man with the megaphone, then they attacked him, Medina said.

WWE's Saudi Arabia event to occur as scheduled despite Khashoggi's death
Saudi Arabia confirmed on October 19 that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi died during a fight in the Saudi consulate in Turkey . The report also claims that Khashoggi was murdered by a group of men who had close relations with the Saudi's crown prince.

"We've seen violence coming out of the caravan", O'Shaughnessy said.

Trump tweeted: "This is an invasion of our Country and our Military is waiting for you!" The Journal reported that the Pentagon plans to deploy 5,000 troops, mainly military police and engineers. Earlier Monday, Trump tweeted accusations about the caravan without citing any evidence.

TWITTER: Many Gang Members and some very bad people are mixed into the Caravan heading to our Southern Border. The group has diminished from a peak of almost 7,000 migrants, as some footsore travelers and parents with children have dropped out or fallen behind.

The first group passed through the spot via the river - wading or on rafts - and was advancing through southern Mexico.

But Mexican officials seem intent only on seeing the caravan melt away as it travels toward the United States border.

Trump says that the US was "going to be prepared" and that the migrants are "not coming into our country". U.S. Transportation Command posted a video on its Facebook page Monday of a C-17 transport plane that it said was delivering Army equipment to the Southwest border in support of the operation.

In an attempt to limit the caravan's size, Mexican police clashed Sunday with a smaller, separate group of Central Americans attempting to enter from Guatemala and catch up to the main group.
