Saudi officials have for weeks pushed a theory, via anonymous leaks to the media, that Khashoggi's killers rolled the Saudi journalist's body in some kind of carpet or fabric and gave it to a Turkish coconspirator for removal from the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

While insisting the United States did not condone Khashoggi's killing, the top USA diplomat said the United States had "deep and long-term strategic relationships" with Saudi Arabia and "we intend to make sure that those relationships remain intact". Ankara maintains that there is strong proof that the killing of the Saudi journalist at the Saudi consulate on October 2 came as a result of a pre-planned operation by a squad of hitmen rather than a spontaneous fist-fight incident, as claimed by Riyadh.

On Wednesday, the Istanbul prosecutor's office said in a statement that Khashoggi's body was dismembered and destroyed after he was strangled in the Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman told the USA he considered murdered writer Jamal Khashoggi to be a unsafe Islamist, media reports say.

Khashoggi, who lived in the United States and wrote columns for the Washington Post, went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to collect some documents, but he never reappeared.

"But Jamal's death is more than a 'complication.' It is vicious, state-sponsored murder of an innocent journalist", he added, calling on the government to suspend arms deals with Riyadh and not resume "business as usual" with the kingdom.

The kingdom has faced intensifying worldwide pressure to be transparent about the death of Khashoggi, a columnist for The Washington Post who was a critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Khashoggi's family rejected the characterization in a statement to the newspaper.

Nintendo second-quarter profit hits eight-year high, powered by Switch sales
Nintendo's quarterly sales growth slowed to 1% year-over-year, which is the worst pace for the company since the Switch launched. If any first-party Nintendo title in the world were to boost the Switch into Wii-like numbers, I think it'd be that one.

The Islamist group has branches in countries around the Middle East, and, to the Saudis, being a member made Khashoggi a terrorist.

Some claimed the body was wrapped up in a rug to be transported from the scene, while others said the hit squad carried the dismembered corpse away in several bags.

Khashoggi entered the consulate last month to get a document he needed to marry his Turkish fiancee.

Pompeo, in an interview with KMOX radio in St. Louis, said President Donald Trump had made it clear Washington would respond to the killing.

USA activists have launched a petition, calling for a section of road near the Saudi embassy in Washington to be renamed Jamal Khashoggi Way.

"It'll take us probably a handful more weeks before we have enough evidence to actually put those sanctions in place, but I think we'll be able to get there".

Bin Salman, who in recent years has loosened strict social rules and arrested Saudi clerics deemed "extremists", said in April that Israelis are entitled to live peacefully on their own land.
