Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino claimed his Manchester City counterpart was disrespectful to the London club when he used the term past year as it implied the England talisman was their only significant player.

It was a bold, fearless endeavour, but anyone who has had any kind of work done on their house - a new conservatory, an extension - knows that it nearly always ends up three times as expensive and takes twice as long, and that's if you're lucky.

"It wasn't the plan but we need to accept the reality", Pochettino said.

The Argentine has led the club to three successive top-three finishes, but Spurs look set to exit the Champions League at the group stage for the second time in three years after taking one point from their opening three games.

Pochettino hinted that Tottenham's failure to sign any new players during the summer showed they are "not completely focused on winning titles" - and former Spurs midfielder Redknapp agrees.

Only two points separates Spurs and Manchester City.

"I always spoke, don't focus too much on the result, especially in this part of the season, forget about it, it is just what we have to do, what we have to do".

"The season so far, it's odd because my feeling is the worst feeling I've had in the five years that I've been here", said Pochettino.

China denies spying on Trump’s phone, suggests he use Huawei
According to the report, Mr Trump's aides say he is using the secure landline more now, but still refuses to give up his iPhones. Trump would prefer to use his personal iPhone because he can not store his contacts in iPhones approved by the NSA.

"People said in that period, "City are going to win the Premier League" and in that game I realised, when I saw how physical they are, how good they are, how (they play) high press, how many good things they do - this is a team".

"These are important. I don't know what's happened in the past but it's true that the strong teams are making a lot of points, they are not dropping points easily". I think in the past I felt better.

Given the tightness in points at the top of the table, Guardiola also sees this as a game City can ill afford to lose. I'm feeling confident and I'm looking forward.

"When you know the pitch might not be in the best condition you have to be more ready than ever".

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola has spoken up on reports linking Tottenham Hotspur coach, Mauricio Pochettino to replace manager Julen Lopetegui at Real Madrid.

"I think the most important thing ahead of the game is how we feel, how we prepare for the game". The reality is what we've done previous year shows you have to be focused on everyone. The decision would be beneficial for all parties involved: Pochettino gets to rest first-choice players who featured against City, and the youngster gains priceless professional experience.

The Eastlands outfit haven't lost in the Premier League this season and the current league crown holders dropped points in a 1-1 draw with promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers and title rivals Liverpool FC.
