Here is how Banksy shredded a painting worth £1million

No one knows how the secretive artist activated a shredder hidden within the frame of his painting "Girl with Balloon" just after it was sold last week by Sotheby's for £1,042,000 (US$1.4 million, 1.2 million euros). "It is a new and all the more valuable work of art, a unique document of an exciting moment in contemporary art history".

The anonymous graffiti artist's painting Girl With A Balloon self-destructed after being sold for more than £1 million at Sotheby's, dropping through a shredder in its frame.

"When the hammer came down last week and the work was shredded, I was at first shocked, but gradually I began to realize that I would end up with my own piece of art history", the buyer, an unnamed female European collector, said according to Sotheby's. The corresponding video he posted on his Instagram page.

The auction house's head of contemporary art, Europe Alex Branczik said this is believed to be the first time a new artwork has been created during an auction.

Art experts predict that the value of the painting could have nearly doubled with the latest stunt that has received widespread media attention.

South Korea Defers to Trump on Keeping North Korea Sanctions
Cheong Wa Dae said it took Trump's words as the USA seeking to maintain close coordination on every matter. Still, the lifting of the 2010 sanctions could offer at least some tangible benefits to the North.

The painting sold for £860,000 but with the buyer's premium on the painting, the price shot up to £1.04million. The said auction took place on October 5 in Sothebys where one millionaire could have laid his dirty hands on a creation of a rebel, until it got shredded.

It is unclear whether this was part of a grand plan or whether the shredding was interrupted when alarmed auction house staff removed it from the wall.

"A few years ago I secretly built a shredder into a painting", text on the screen in the short clip explains. Sotheby's employees were stunned at the incredible Banksy stunt. His screen is visible and that angle is similar to one in footage in Banksy's video. In 2006, he released an inflatable doll dressed as a Guantánamo Bay prisoner at Disneyland in California.

"A man dressed in black sporting sunglasses and a hat was seen scuffling with security guards near the entrance to Sotheby's shortly after the incident", Art Newspaper also reported.
