Why you're getting a Trump text Wednesday: FEMA's new test alert, explained

Everyone will receive alert during test of national emergency alert system on Wednesday

In addition, the FCC also will conduct a national test of the Emergency Alert System via radio and TV broadcasters, cable providers, satellite radio and TV operators, and wireline video providers at 2:20 p.m. EDT, lasting about one minute.

Americans nationwide will receive an alert on their cellphones from President Donald Trump for the first time ever Wednesday. "No action is needed", it'll read. Cellular towers will broadcast the alert for about 30 minutes. Rather, its a test of a new nationwide warning system that a president could use in case of an armed attack by another country, a cyber attack or a widespread natural disaster.

The wireless emergency alert system is meant to be used in the event of emergencies, like incoming nuclear missiles fired from North Korea in response to a particularly provocative tweet emanating from the Devil's Workshop during the Witching Hour. The message will have a header that says "Presidential Alert" and will read...

Cellphone users can expect their phone to get the alert, along with "a loud tone and vibration" at 2:18 p.m.

The test alert, the USA government's first nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert System, won't be from President Trump per se.

Can WEA be Used for Any Presidential Message? If your cell is on and you have service, you will likely receive it and can not stop it.

English Premier League Report: Chelsea v Liverpool 29 September 2018
There is no doubt that Salah will continue to score goals by the bucketload for Liverpool . But Liverpool arrive at Stamford Bridge with their 100% record still intact.

"This is part of what's called the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, or IPAWS", said Tim Warstler, Stark County Emergency Management Agency director.

Cell phones that are turned on and within the range of an active cell tower are expected to receive the message.

"This is something that should not be used for a political agenda", he said.

You'll soon be getting a message on your phone from the President of the United States - whether you are a supporter or not.

Can I Block These Alerts?

The test is strictly a test created to evaluate the effectiveness of distributing an emergency alert nationwide.

If you happen to be watching television or listening to the radio around that time, you'll also see this alert broadcast out over the Emergency Alert System (EAS). Others will not. No action is required.
