Woods used to get defensive about his mark, pointing out that no one could recite the Ryder Cup record of Jack Nicklaus (17-8-3 during an era of usa dominance), but that everyone knew Nicklaus had won 18 majors.

"It's going to be fun".

Woods said Tuesday that most of the young generation was just getting going when he was on his way out because of back pain.

"There's a lot of nerves".

McIlroy says it's silly to focus on one player and that he might not even see Woods at Le Golf National if they are not in the same match. "This is the one week we're allowed to let loose and show our emotions".

"It's a huge grandstand. That's very hard to explain to someone who hasn't had to hit that tee shot before". He served as a vice-captain two years ago at Hazeltine, but he says that's not the same as teeing it up himself. "It's going to be an unbelievable atmosphere".

The US roster has nine major winners and 11 of the world's 17 top-ranked players, led by world number one Dustin Johnson and third-ranked Brooks Koepka, this year's US Open and PGA Championship victor.

"I don't know what it was acoustically, but they were so close together that it was reverberating".

"We haven't done well", Woods said Tuesday.

The Suits actress worked with UN Women and advocated for girls around the world through her contributions to World Vision Canada. Meghan said as she took a look at her dress. "He probably assumed that someone else (not her) was going to close it".

He added, to laughter in the room: "I do have an idea of what captain (Jim) Furyk is thinking, yeah". At the Masters in April, McIlroy partnered Patrick Reed and struggled to a another 74 as the American made his major breakthrough.

Monday was as much a time to reflect on Woods as it was to rest up for a busy week at Le Golf National. That's where Gene Sarazen won the 1933 PGA Championship. But Woods has played on only one Ryder Cup victor in seven attempts, that in 1999's Battle of Brookline when the Americans made a record last-day fightback. "There's a lot of you in this together, so I think good or bad, you're going to get carried through it all week".

"Haven't done well", Woods said.

"Looking back on my entire Ryder Cup career, that's not something that I have really enjoyed and I've really liked seeing", Woods said.

Open champion Francesco Molinari, world number two Justin Rose, four-time major victor Rory McIlroy and reigning Race to Dubai champion Tommy Fleetwood lead a good European team but a home win would be considered a minor upset.

In a Ryder Cup career that dates from 1997, Woods has lost to or tied teams featuring Europe's luminaries (Colin Montgomerie and Nick Faldo and Sergio Garcia and the like) and its also-rans (Ignacio Garrido, anyone?). The last time the U.S. did pick up a victory in Europe was indeed on English territory when Tom Watson captained the Americans to a 15-13 victory at the Belfry in 1993.

"I've been excited for this for basically since the last day in Hazeltine, whenever we weren't the ones spraying champagne for a change", the world number six said.

"But it's probably not too likely".

Know how many times Woods has celebrated with his teammates, spraying champagne and hoisting that cup? To have them a part of the team is priceless in a way. "I haven't really had a lot of time to soak it in".
