Trump says he may delay Rosenstein meeting

Rod Rosenstein Has Verbally Resigned To John Kelly

President Trump said at a press conference Wednesday that he "may delay" his meeting with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, now scheduled for Thursday.

At one point, Mark Landler, a reporter from the New York Times requested to ask a question.

The president initially set his meeting with Rosenstein for Thursday, the same day that the Senate Judiciary Committee scheduled a hearing on the allegations against Kavanaugh.

But after a phone conversation with Trump in NY, and meetings in person with White House officials in Washington, Rosenstein returned to Justice Department headquarters with his job and an appointment to return to the White House on Thursday.

Trump said Rosenstein denied making remarks first attributed to him in a New York Times report, including that he had discussed possibly secretly recording the president and using the Constitution's 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. But after meeting with chief of staff John Kelly and speaking by phone with Trump, he got a reprieve with the Trump meeting scheduled for Thursday.

The investigation of Russian election interference is a "witch hunt", as Trump repeated, but he also said he would "much prefer to keep Rod Rosenstein" as the second-in-command at the Justice Department.

Jose Mourinho questions attitude of Man Utd players after draw against Wolves
I never had a difference of attitude. "Against Tottenham we lost the game but I liked very much my team's performance". Mourinho said that his team has the talent but they are not able to cross the line owing to a mental situation.

"I'm talking with him. We had fun", Trump told reporters, referring to the chortles heard on Tuesday after he boasted his government had accomplished more than "almost any administration in USA history".

"I'm going to meet with [Rosenstein] tomorrow", said Trump.

The president has frequently criticized Rosenstein, who has been steadfast in trying to protect Mueller as the probe digs ever deeper into Trump's inner circle.

Allies such as Fox News host Sean Hannity have accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of leaking the damaging information on Rosenstein in the hope that Trump would fire him, setting off another firestorm just weeks before elections that will determine political control of Congress.

It's possible Mr. Trump could use the Vacancies Reform Act to appoint a new acting deputy attorney general.

But amid ever deepening paranoia and partisan division in Washington, others ask if the story wasn't leaked to trap Trump, trying to bait him into ousting the official - thereby plunging his administration into new controversy.
