Butler met with Thibodeau in Los Angeles yesterday for showdown talks regarding his future. If Butler and his representatives had gone to Thibodeau with this decision earlier in the offseason, he already may have been traded elsewhere, either in a second draft night deal or in July.

Apparently, the meeting did not go well.

Butler turned down a four-year contract extension from the Timberwolves following the season.

Teague is 30, and if Butler isn't in the picture anymore, Minnesota is better off focusing on building something sustainable rather than trying to win immediately.

ESPN reported that Butler's three preferred trade destinations are the Nets, Knicks and Clippers.

Despite the Timberwolves only trading for the point guard last season, Butler has handed in a trade request. For value purposes, the Clippers might actually form the best odds at 9/1, as the team employs an interesting assortment of trade assets in conjunction with the obvious allure of Los Angeles.

Timberwolves training camp is scheduled to begin next week.

Butler joined Minnesota in a trade with the Chicago Bulls in June 2017. The T-Wolves also received a first-round pick in the deal.

The rift between Butler and Timberwolves' All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns, as well as Andrew Wiggins, seems to be a major reason why Butler is likely to be traded before the start of the season.

Ed Davis signed with Brooklyn on a one-year deal on July 23, meaning he can not be traded before December 15, per Larry Coon's NBA Salary Cap FAQ.
