President Trump has not said whether he would pardon Manafort, but the president has not publicly ruled it out. There were 18 counts altogether, but Ellis declared a mistrial on those charges when jurors couldn't reach an agreement on them-and that hung jury came about because of a lone juror.

According to court documents, he has agreed to plead guilty on Friday to two criminal counts in the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

"If he's helping out Mueller, that's more bad news for Trump".

President Trump has the power to grant Manafort a pardon for the eight counts he was convicted of in Alexandria as well as any charges he could be convicted of in the second trial-and for that matter, any convictions that may result if he were retried on the ten mistrial charges.

One of the potential witnesses against Manafort was Sam Patten, who pleaded guilty on August 31 to failing to register as a Ukrainian agent.

It will also allow Manafort to serve time from his separate federal cases in Virginia and Washington concurrently, a source told Politico.

The allegations do not involve his work with the Trump presidential campaign.

Philippines: 10 million people in the path of Mangkhut
Typhoon Mangkhut is expected to bring heavy rains and flooding along the northern coastal provinces of Cagayan and Batanes. Almost 48,000 houses in those high-risk areas are made of light materials and vulnerable to Mangkhut's ferocious winds.

The punishment that Manafort may receive related to his D.C. case, and any cooperation he may have offered the government, weren't immediately clear.

The criminal information received reduced seven previous charges on money laundering, conspiracy, false statements and failure to register as a foreign agent. "MANAFORT generated more than 60 million dollars in income as a result of his Ukraine work".

The decision by Trump's onetime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, to plead guilty last month in a federal investigation in Manhattan particularly angered the president, who denounced him as a "flipper".

During Manafort's first trial, Judge Ellis often butted heads with federal prosecutors.

"I had hoped and expected my business colleague would have had the strength to continue the battle to prove our innocence", Manafort said in February.

That posture drew plaudits from Trump, who praised his former campaign chairman for his unwillingness to cooperate with the special counsel.

On Twitter on August 22, Trump wrote: "Unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to "break" - make up stories in order to get a 'deal". "Such respect for a courageous man!"
