The umpire was right to give Serena Williams a serve

US Open Womens Single champion Naomi Osaka of Japan (L) with Serena Williams of the US during their Women's Singles Finals match at the 2018 US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in NY on September 8, 2018.

On Sunday, a day after the match, the tournament referee's office docked Williams US$10,000 for "verbal abuse" of chair umpire Carlos Ramos, US$4,000 for being warned for coaching, and US$3,000 for breaking her racket. Chair Umpire Carlos Ramos infuriated Serena when he handed her a warning for receiving coaching from her coach Patrick Mouratoglou from the stands. Ramos has not spoken publicly about Saturday's match in which Williams accused him of being "a thief" and also accused him of sexism for dealing with her more harshly than he would have a male player in the same circumstances.

She also once told WTA in an interview that the people who have inspired her the most were her mother, her sister, Serena Williams and Beyonce. She was graceful during an awkward trophy ceremony for her opponent, Naomi Osaka, but later said she would not have received the penalty if she was a woman and claimed she was fighting for women's equality.

"But she faced neither in that Grand Slam final".

"I've seen other men call other umpires several things", she said.

Former professional chair umpire Richard Ings has revealed the Portuguese official was paid the princely sum of $633 for taking charge of the Osaka-Williams encounter. In her previous win against Serena, she said, "Just playing against her is kind of like a dream for me".

US Open champion Naomi Osaka admits she is still coming to terms with her shock victory over Serena Williams.

Trump claims he is exact opposite of Woodward book portrayal
The book is also filled with interviews from officials expressing grave concerns about Trump's fitness for office. The publication of Mr Woodward's book, due for publication next Tuesday, has been anticipated for weeks.

The 2.4 overnight rating was up 32% from a year ago (1.9), when the Women's final featured two American players, Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys, and 79% higher than 2016 (1.4 for Angelique Kerber vs. Karolina Pliskova). "We do not believe that this was done last night", CEO Steve Simon said in a statement.

Appearing on ESPN, Adams also claimed there are double standards in terms of how umpires treat women and men.

"I'm trying to figure out why he would say that". It isn't, and as a result, a player was penalized for the actions of her coach.

Many, Ings included, believe Ramos followed the rule book to the letter - and should be lauded for having the courage to call the violations as he saw them.

"He did change the course of the match".

But others sided against Williams, including an Australian sports magazine editor, Tony Sarno, who tweeted: "Naomi, on behalf of the rest of the world, please accept my apologies for Serena's appalling behaviour during the match and the American crowd's graceless booing at the presentation". It's hard to generalise things, really.
