Shooting breaks out at California's Del Mar race track

KFMB-TV says no other injuries were reported as of Sunday evening.

According to the San Diego County Sherriff's Department Homicide Unit, the incident occurred just before 6:40 p.m. after the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Daniel Elizarraras, approached the ticket window.

A man who fired shots into a crowded area because he was upset he couldn't get into a sold-out concert by the rapper Ice Cube was shot and wounded by a sheriff's deputy Sunday evening in Del Mar, Calif., police said. "Deputies engaged and returned fire", the statement said.

The track was hosting a post-race concert featuring Ice Cube, the popular rap artist, writer and actor whose former group NWA, was the subject in the movie, "Straight Outta Compton".

The sheriff's department said the alleged gunman shot by deputies was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Commentators screamed "there's gunfire at the track", before abandoning their posts and fleeing.

Following the shooting, the concert moved "forward as planned", the racetrack said.

Twitter videos were shared showing TVG's on-air coverage of a race at the track and an announcer could be heard shouting "there is gun fire at the track".

TVG's Todd Schrupp, who was heard on the television broadcast repeatedly exclaiming "Gunfire at the track!" during the gallop out of the 10th race, later took to Twitter to share details of the event.

"We take consolation in the fact that no patrons, officers or security personnel were injured in the incident", the statement said.
