Aretha Franklin fans kicked off a four-day celebration of the soul legend's life and career in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday morning (28Aug18). There, they found Franklin in her bronze casket in a sheer light blue dress and matching shoes, a change from the red outfit she wore on Tuesday.

The body of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin on Tuesday arrived at the Detroit's Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History for viewing and final goodbyes.

Aretha is set to be buried on Friday at the Greater Grace Temple and will be attended by family and friends only.

The funeral will open with a viewing featuring recorded songs by Franklin. Two days before her death, Franklin was honored by Beyonce and Jay Z in Detroit.

Franklin won 18 Grammy awards and provided a soundtrack to the civil rights movement, singing to raise money for the cause and uplifting activists with her phenomenal voice and upbeat anthems.

On Friday, former president Bill Clinton and Smokey Robinson are among those due to address her six-hour, invitation-only funeral with musical tributes coming from Stevie Wonder and Ariana Grande.

She said the Queen of Soul was "a singer of the universe".

"She's probably one of the strongest people that I've ever known and didn't know that she was that strong, but I think it was that spiritual part that kept her going", Ellis said.

"I think it's incredibly significant - she is being honored nearly like a queen at one of the most important black museums in the United States", she said.
