Twitter suspends Alex Jones for a week for inciting violence

In the broadcast in question on Twitter's Periscope, according to watchdog group Media Matters, Jones appeared to call for violence against perceived left-wing "traitors".

"People need to have their battle rifles and everything ready at their bedsides, and you've got to be ready, because the media is so disciplined in their deception", he said. In the meantime, Jones simply moved over to his InfoWars account, where he proceeded to push his unsafe, completely unhinged conspiracy theories, like his current favorite about special prosecutor Robert Mueller abusing children.

The content ran afoul of Twitter's prohibition against abuse, which specifies that users "may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so".

First reported by CNN, Alex Jones will be unable to send tweets for the next week, but the operators of his account will still be able to read tweets.

Turkey's Erdogan vows United States boycott, but diplomats resume talks
But to the dismay of markets, the statement gave no clear promise of rate hikes, which is what most economists say is needed. Cavusoglu said: "We support diplomacy and negotiations but it is not possible for us to accept impositions".

The apparent change of heart reflects a Twitter still grasping to its roots as a free-wheeling Wild West of the internet in an age where online words can have serious real-life consequences.

"Last night's purge was a coordinated effort and had nothing to do with enforcing hate speech rule", Jones said on his talkshow.

Apple banned him and his podcast from iTunes earlier this month and Google removed him from YouTube. Twitter came under enormous criticism for refusing to go along, but on Tuesday announced that they were suspending Jones's account for one week due to violations of its rules. He'd used those companies' services as outlets for his show, in which he's claimed that the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School was a hoax (false) and that the student survivors of a mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school were "crisis actors" (false). Facebook issued Jones a 30-day ban from its site for repeatedly posting prohibited content, and Youtube terminated Jones' channel for violating its Community Guidelines.
