German couple jailed for selling son, 9, to paedophiles on dark web

A German couple have been sentenced to prison after selling their ten-year-old son to paedophiles for sex on the dark web in what has been described as "the worst case of its kind in German criminal history".

Berrin T., the mother, was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in prison.

Their sentences fell short of what prosecutors had demanded - 14 years and six months for Taha and 13 years and six months for Lais.

Police arrested the couple past year after being tipped off by an anonymous person.

The 48-year-old woman and 39-year-old man were accused of repeatedly abusing and raping the boy, now 10, and selling him to other men on the darknet, an area of the internet that can be visited only by using special software, for more than two years.

The 33-year-old was also ordered to pay €18,000 (S$28,464) to the young victim.

Mueller, Trump Lawyers Closing In On Interview Agreement
She did not mention, however, that the Supreme Court rejected that legal analysis and sided with the Trump administration. Earlier this summer, Parscale tweeted that Trump should fire Sessions in order to bring the Mueller probe to an end.

The woman's 39-year-old male partner was handed a 12-year prison term followed by "preventive detention", which could delay his release on the grounds that he poses a danger to the public.

The couple, who identified only as Berrin T and Christian L, lived in the town of Staufen near Freiburg, Germany, and were paid up to €10,000 (£8,950) a time to abuse their son.

The mother's partner, who already had a previous conviction of serious child abuse, confessed to the court in June that he was the "driving force" behind the crimes. It said the mother was aware from the start of the man's pedophile tendencies and previous conviction.

In May 2015, the couple started abusing the woman's son, with the man at first offering the child cash.

According to case psychiatrist Hartmut Pleines, quoted by Spiegel, the mother's claim that she was in thrall to her partner when she committed the abuse was false.

The case has shocked German society - and local authorities have been accused of failing to protect the boy, who now lives with a foster family.
