Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has warned the club not to sell Paul Pogba amid interest in the Frenchman from Barcelona.

According to Sky Sports Italia, the Catalan giants have offered defender Yerry Mina and midfielder Andre Gomes plus £45 million (R780 million) in exchange for United's club record signing.

United are understood to have rejected the offer, and Ferdinand - who made over 450 appearances for the Premier League side - urged executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to instead focus on signing players.

The World Cup winning midfielder returned to United in 2016 following a spell in Italy with Juventus.

Ashwin then accounted for Stuart Broad (1), lbw too, but Anderson somehow managed to thwart his efforts for a five-wicket haul. It resulted in him giving England two chances, one off Anderson when on 21 and another off Stokes when he'd passed his fifty.

Selling Pogba at this point in the transfer window would leave the Red Devils with just two days to find a high-profile replacement, while the Spanish window closes on 31 August, which means Barca could still sign Pogba after Thursday.

But he has struggled to settle under Jose Mourinho with his displays for France this summer simply highlighting his ineffectiveness for his club last season. That is even more pronounced for United as a whole, who see Pogba as central to their commercial plans as much as the team's future on the pitch.

The Old Trafford side have been in a long, hard pursuit of Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld and look set to finalise the signing ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

He tweeted: "Don't you dare allow this ED. #MUFC is Pogba's home!"
