Unemployment Rate for Workers Without High School Degrees Hits Record Low

US jobs growth slows more than expected in July

"Non-farm payrolls increased by a more modest 157,000 in July but, with the gain in the preceding two months revised up by a cumulative 60,000, the labor market still appears to be in good health", said Paul Ashworth, chief USA economist at Capital Economics. Economists forecast that employers added 191,000 jobs in July, down from 213,000 in June but easily enough to lower the unemployment rate over time.

USA job growth slowed more than expected in July, as companies appeared to struggle to find qualified workers and the unemployment rate declined, pointing to tightening labour market conditions. Last week, the commerce department reported that GDP had grown at an annual rate of 4.1% in the second quarter, the fastest pace in almost four years. Hospitals added 6,800 jobs in July, 36% fewer than the 10,600 new jobs added in June, a month that represented a massive hiring spike from sluggish May growth. In May, unemployment hit 3.8 per cent, the lowest reading since April 2000.

"This [report] won't derail the Fed's plans to hike interest rates again next month".

The overall recent surge of job gains may reflect, in part, confidence among some businesses that the Trump administration's tax cuts will accelerate growth - even though a growing roster of economic experts disagree with that assumption. African American and Hispanic unemployment rates are hovering around the lowest rates since the Labor Department began recording those statistics in the early 1970s.

Art Acevedo, Houston police chief, commented on the attack, stating: "There was a lot of planning that went into this". The couple lived in an upscale neighborhood not far from the Texas Medical Center in southwest Houston .

The U.S. economy has added jobs for 94 consecutive months, a record streak that shows no signs of waning, despite President Trump's escalating trade war.

If the pace of hiring continues at the same rate it has since January, the United States is likely to add about 2.6 million jobs this year, which would be the strongest since 2015. The economy is now entering its tenth year of expansion, and hiring has actually accelerated this year compared with 2017, surprising most analysts. Small businesses (one to 49 employees) grew by 52,000 jobs, while large businesses (500 employees or more) gained 48,000 jobs. Transportation, mining and financial services did not hire much in July. Retail payrolls rebounded by 7,100 jobs last month after losing 20,200 in June.

Government employment fell by 13,000 jobs in July.

Professional/business services gained 51,000 jobs, with temporary help services adding 28,000 jobs and computer systems design 8,000 jobs, according to the BLS.
