Police in Missouri respond to possible Mollie Tibbetts sighting

The missing college student's disappearance has galvanized searches by family, friends, and law enforcement agencies desperate to know what happened to her. News of a possible Mollie Tibbetts sighting broke on August 2, 2018, but it remained unconfirmed. He said she stayed at his Brooklyn house alone and watched his dogs.

Donations have poured in over the past few days and the family is now offering a $172,000 reward for information that will lead authorities to her.

Kearney, Missoui police responded on July 26 to a possible sighting of Tibbetts, 20, at a truck stop in the area, police told KSFY News affiliate KMBC.

For two weeks, investigators have been searching for clues and conducting hundreds of interviews in the search for Mollie Tibbets.

"We believe that Mollie is still alive, and if someone has abducted her, we are pleading with you to please release her", Tibbetts' mother, Laura Calderwood, said during a Thursday morning press conference.

Asked whether they're investigating Tibbitts' disappearance as an abduction, Winker said they are treating it as a missing person case.

A property owner in the area said the multitude of police cruisers and emergency vehicles along Highway 21 between the towns of Guernsey and Deep River are connected to the search for Tibbetts.

"If they're listening then I would just like them to know... imagine if this was you". She was reported missing on July 19 when she failed to show up for work, according to reporting in the Des Moines Register.

"It is our greatest hope that if someone has her that they would just release her and claim that money that we have raised for her freedom".

"Everyday I feel Mollie's presence with me".

"Sometimes I just feel her sitting on my shoulder", she said. She called Tibbetts an "incredibly strong woman". "Unfortunately, we have not yet found Mollie but it's not because of lack of effort or lack of resources".

Tibbetts was last seen wearing dark-colored running shorts, a pink sports top and running shoes.
