Soldiers are now on the streets of Zimbabwe's capital, Harare, a day after they fired at demonstrating opposition MDC Alliance supporters who argued that the election results were being rigged. At least three people were reported killed.

The activists are denouncing violent protests but calling the government's reaction illegal and "grossly disproportionate to the violence that it sought to contain".

"It is an indictment for the MDC and it is a result of their intraparty wars where they split votes in the case of Nkayi South, while people like Edgar Moyo of Matobo North are known by the locals as progressive and development-minded and the people are optimistic looking forward, which shows that Zanu PF is reforming itself", Sibanda said.

The outcome will be announced once results from all provinces are received and verified, Priscilla Chigumba, the chairwoman of the electoral commission, told reporters.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to confirm the unfortunate deaths of three people during the riots and melee which occurred in Harare Central business district", police spokeswoman Charity Charamba told state television. Inside the main gate, a water cannon mounted on a police vehicle blasted protesters who hurled rocks that bounced off its armored plating.

"We are exhausted of them stealing our votes".

Many shops were closed on a quiet Thursday morning in Harare, where scattered debris, charred remains from fires and a few dozen soldiers acted as a reminder of the violence that erupted a day before.

It does not give the results for the presidential vote.

Global observers from the Commonwealth and elsewhere are urging the release of the presidential results as soon as possible.

The observer missions said the country needed to strengthen its legal framework to incorporate outstanding election law to the new constitution.

Facebook just had its worst week in the company’s history
Before the results were announced, Facebook's shares had closed in NY at $217.50, a record high, and had gained 23% this year . The disappointing results came after Facebook has been embroiled in a data scandal affecting millions of users.

It said it had observed several problems, including media bias, voter intimidation and mistrust in the electoral commission, adding that there was an "improved political climate, but un-level playing field and lack of trust".

The commission said it would release vote totals "sometime" on Thursday, even though it said most of the results "are here with us".

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has announced it is not yet sure when the commission will announce the results of the presidential election.

The opposition alleges the elections have irregularities, saying voting results were not posted outside one-fifth of polling stations as required by law.

Mr Chamisa's party alleges that the elections are being rigged in favour of Zanu-PF, a claim ZEC denies.

The ruling party forced Mugabe to resign in November, when the military briefly seized control of the country, and replaced him with Mnangagwa, his former deputy and spy chief.

What will happen in the presidential vote?

The EU observer mission expressed "serious concerns" as representatives of Western and other groups gave their first assessments of whether the vote was free and fair - crucial for lifting worldwide sanctions on the once-prosperous country.

Home Affairs Minister Obert Mpofu accused the opposition of using the presence of worldwide election observers to "grandstand" and cause "anarchy". "We won the popular vote and will defend it!"
