Cohen Says Trump Knew About Trump Tower Meeting With Russians In Advance, CNN Reports

Cohen's claims contradict statements from the president, Trump Jr. and their legal teams that Trump did not know about the Trump Tower meeting where Russians were expected to offer dirt on his then-Democratic challenger Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonEx-NFL player accuses Trump of attacking "black culture" Pompeo spars with senators at testy hearing Budowsky: In 2018, women say no to Trump MORE until The New York Times reported on its existence previous year.

DONALD Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen has claimed the president knew in advance of an infamous pre-election meeting between Trump campaign officials and a Russian lawyer.

Alan Futerfas, an attorney for Trump Jr., said in a statement that his client "has been professional and responsible throughout the Mueller and Congressional investigations".

In the recording, the two men are heard discussing a payment to Trump's friend David Pecker, who heads American Media Incorporated.

Mr. Cohen does not have any evidence such as audiotapes verifying his claims, CNN's sources said.

This week in the Russian Federation investigations: Michael Cohen goes rogue; what would it mean if it is determined he is telling the truth?

Giuliani also said Cohen is "the kind of witness that can really destroy your whole case" and called Cohen, who was a top Trump Organization attorney for a decade, a "pathological liar".

"I expected something like this from Cohen", Giuliani told CNN's Chris Cuomo.

Those close to Mr. Cohen describe the lawyer as bewildered at the fast-moving events around him as he tries to look out for his family and make decisions about their future. "Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam", the President tweeted.

According to Giuliani, the 100 or more tapes seized from Cohen prove that "the president did nothing wrong".

It will be a big test (for me) but I think it's more one for the team to control it most of the day. Alexander Kristoff of Norway crossed third in the same time.

Sam Nunberg, a former Trump campaign aide, said Sunday on "Meet The Press" that he sided with the Trumps over Cohen. "There was no such meeting [where Trump was told about the Russian offer]".

President Trump and his son have denied that Trump knew in advance of the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting.

In response to the allegation, Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani told NBC that Cohen "was not credible".

The Thursday reports of Cohen's claims is further evidence that Cohen could flip on Trump in the Russian Federation investigation - which would be a nightmare for Trump's legal team.

According to people who have discussed the matter with Cohen, he has expressed hope that this claim about the Trump Tower meeting will help him reach out to Mueller and possibly lessen his legal troubles.

"The man is a liar", Giuliani says.

And Trump Jr. talked with the Senate Judiciary Committee about the phone calls he was making at the time he was setting up the meeting, which followed an offer of help from the Russian government via a series of intermediaries.

The publicist said the outreach was "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr Trump". They also note that two days before the meeting, Trump mysteriously announced plans to give a "major speech" about Clinton's scandals. Trump has denied having an affair with Karen McDougal, the former Playboy model.

The rupture with his former boss was a startling shift for Cohen, who enjoyed almost daily access to Trump and his entourage for more than a decade during which he served as Trump's fixer, political adviser and fiercest public defender.

Friday's tweet storm from the President included another denunciation of Mueller's investigation as "the rigged Witch Hunt".
