Trump 'open' to visiting Moscow for meeting with Putin

A CNN reporter said she was blocked from an open media event at the White House on Wednesday after officials objected to questions she asked President Donald Trump at an event earlier in the day.

Following the backlash in the United States over Trump's cordial public tone with Putin at the Helsinki summit, USA and Russian officials backed away from a proposal to schedule a follow-up summit in Washington.

In an interview with CNBC television, Trump said "getting along with President Putin, getting along with Russia's a positive, not a negative".

President Donald Trump calls on a reporter before boarding Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC.

Beyond the politics, the real world implications of Trump's meeting with Putin and remarks in Helsinki are stark: The U.S. intelligence community's already demanding job became even more challenging - which weakens the United States' ability to ensure our national security.

And Trump counsellor Kellyanne Conway said the incident showed the need broadly for more "civility" between reporters and the White House.

Separately, Trump's defence chief, Jim Mattis, said he was considering the possibility of the first talks in years between the defence chiefs of the United States and Russian Federation.

"The Summit with Russian Federation was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media", Trump said on Twitter.

The indictments of the 12 Russians were issued by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russia. Likewise, Putin said, "I am ready to go to Washington".

Sanders said the White House made clear that other CNN journalists were invited to the next event, just not Collins. He says she refused to do that and stayed "despite staff, Secret Service, everyone trying to usher everyone out of the room".

US officials have said Russian interfered in the 2016 election, and McConnell says he thinks the Russians will try again in 2018.

A summit last week between the pair in Helsinki caused Trump serious domestic problems, with the USA president accused of appeasing a man who allegedly tried to tilt the 2016 United States presidential election.

He escalated criticism of the Fed, saying the central bank is hurting USA economic expansion by raising interest rates, making the dollar more expensive compared with Chinese and European currencies.

Sanders was reportedly one of the staffers, along with former communications director and Trump whisperer Hope Hicks, who tried to talk the president out of his revenge tactics.

"I can't say it more forcefully".

Collins' colleagues and press organizations, among them the White House Correspondents Association, offered their solidarity and criticized "the mistaken decision of the White House to impede access" by the journalist.

Efforts by both Trump and Putin to achieve detente have been fiercely resisted by USA lawmakers, including some in Trump's own Republican Party, accusing him of being too friendly toward Putin, whom they consider an adversary of the United States.

Moscow has portrayed its tensions with Washington as a result of Trump being hobbled by domestic political disputes and a widespread "Russophobia" perpetrated by holdovers from the Obama years - echoing Trump's penchant to blame his predecessor for many problems.
