Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., along with Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and senior campaign aide Paul Manafort took part in the June 9, 2016, meeting with Nataliya Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer and acknowledged Kremlin informant.

Following a week of bombshell revelations, Rudy Giuliani, Trump's current legal counsel and the former New York City mayor, told the network that his team has told Cohen and his lawyers they "should respect the client and attorney privilege in different ways", Giuliani said. "Gee, I wonder if they helped him make the choice!" he added.

But the Justice Department does not believe it can indict a sitting president, as Mueller has reportedly restated to Giuliani and Trump's other lawyers.

Issa, though, is no fan of Cohen, calling him "a turncoat lawyer" who should be "disbarred" for recording his client without his knowledge when the two were discussing payments to a former Playboy model.

"I did NOT know of the meeting with my son, Don jr.", Trump tweeted Friday.

The criticism of a man who was once Trump's fierce defender reflects the tensions wrought by the federal investigations in NY and Washington.

"We have an outstanding offer to them", Giuliani said. Federal investigators seized millions of records during a raid on his home and office in April, including recordings of conversations Cohen had made.

"He's been lying all week, he's been lying for years", Giuliani said.

Collins had served as a representative of the television networks during an earlier "pool spray" availability in the Oval Office. He also said it was in the interests of Russian Federation and the United States to extend arms control treaties.

To be clear, these sources said Cohen does not have evidence, such as audio recordings, to corroborate his claim, but he is willing to attest to his account. "I'd never prosecute a case on this guy's testimony", Giuliani said.

"I don't even know if that's a crime - colluding with Russians", Giuliani said on CNN.

Others have been making this same argument for nearly as long as Donald Trump has been president, and for good reason. Giuliani says prosecutors have more than 100 recordings, and about a dozen have to do with the president.

Cohen did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"My observation is that it was an evolution that caused him to decide once Donald Trump was president that he had to tell truth and change his life", Davis told the AP.

Cohen, whose business dealings are being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has longtime dealings in the taxi industry and owns several medallions for New York City yellow cabs that allow them to pick up passengers on the street. He also says discussions over whether President Trump will be interviewed by Robert Mueller has been on hold for several weeks.

In a widely circulated interview with ABC earlier this month, Cohen stated that his first loyalty was to his family and his country, hinting that he was prepared to flip on his former boss.
