Ex-Illini Anderson advances to first Wimbledon quarterfinals

An eight-time victor of the men's singles at the All England Club, Federer was an overwhelming favorite against the 22nd seed and never looked like falling victim to a huge upset. Legendary boxing promoter Don King was brought in to hype up the contest - using the moniker "Grapple in the Apple".

Federer was first on Centre Court on Monday for what is known as Wimbledon's "Manic Monday", in which all 32 remaining singles players vie for a place in the quarterfinals. The upset serves as a reminder that in sport, match-ups can not be cherry-picked in advance. "I didn't play on grass for a whole year", Nadal said.

Two of those men have experience in doing precisely that.

Williams lifted her intensity and avoided facing any break points as she secured one break of her own to take the set 6-3.

Former world number one Djokovic has a 13-2 winning record against the Japanese player.

A pretty emphatic win against an opponent who had no answers on the day, Fed had too much pace of shot, too much guile and too much aggression. That variety and injection of pace made Mannarino so unsure of his game and like I've said many times before Fed's brand of tennis is just so unique.

The world number one and reigning French Open champion also extended his grand slam streak to 11 matches to book an appointment on Wednesday with either Argentine fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro or veteran Frenchman Gilles Simon.

In a 2011 deposition, he became enraged when lawyer Elizabeth Beck asked for a break to pump breast milk for her infant daughter. The State Department declined the Times' request to comment and said it could not discuss private diplomatic conversations.

"That's how important Wimbledon is to me and to us over here".

While Nadal, who has lost his last five encounters against Federer with four of them coming in 2017, would be excited about a meeting with the Swiss legend, he also would prefer to face anyone else to better his chances of a third Wimbledon title.

Federer will next play another South African eighth seed Kevin Anderson.

Djokovic had told reporters that he had been hopeful of playing his quarter-final match on Centre Court before telling Serbian media that he "deserved" the honour and meant to lobby the All England Club.

He eventually finished off the world No.53 in the third tiebreak to move into his second Wimbledon quarter-final where twice champion Nadal is waiting. We are not talking about already that I played a final or I won the tournament. I'm really happy for you.

Amid all of the chaos in the women's bracket at Wimbledon, the quarterfinal round in the men's bracket boasts a lot of familiar faces.

Nadal, who plays at a slower, more deliberate pace, had no trouble with 93rd-ranked Jiri Vesely either, dismissing him, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, in less than two hours.
