They remained trapped inside the cave complex for almost two weeks before they made first contact with rescuers from the United Kingdom at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday at about 1.2 miles deep inside the cave.

There was no immediate comment about the plan from Thai officials. The magnanimous founder of Tesla, Space X, Boring Company Elon Musk replied within a couple of hours expressing his will to help the boys.

The dive is also dark and unsafe - it has taken rescuers six hours to reach the team and another five hours to return to the entrance.

Responding to a question on Twitter, the entrepreneur and engineering mastermind said "divers who have made the passage", believe the pod is small enough to fit through the most narrow portions of the cave. "Extremely robust", he tweeted Saturday.

Musk has been tweeting out some idea and it looks like he might have come up with a solution.

The cave system is some six miles long, and the main concern now is that the rising water levels are cutting short their oxygen supply.

Elon Musk says he is "happy to help" with the rescue of the Thai soccer team now stuck inside a cave.

On Friday the Thai government confirmed that Musk's engineers will arrive on Saturday, July 7, on its Facebook page.

"Also building an inflatable tube with airlocks".

Several of Musk's companies could potentially be put to use rescuing the boys, including the radar location technology from the Boring Co. and SpaceX, plus drills and pumps to drain water and high-power Tesla Powerwall battery packs.

And the situation is growing more desperate: A former Thai Navy SEAL died from lack of oxygen on Friday while attempting to replace oxygen canisters for the boys. It would still be a harrowing and claustrophobic experience, but-if everything works as Musk describes-it could be much less risky than conventional scuba diving, where a panicking teenager could lead to the death of the teen himself as well as his professional scuba guides.

The boys and their coach have been trapped in the cave system in the country's north for about two weeks, and heavy rainfall looms in the days ahead.
