President’s tour of historic UK… avoiding the protests in London

From Mugabe To Xi Trump Joins Leaders Queen Elizabeth Met Amid Protests

He will hold talks with Prime Minister Theresa May at her 16th-century manor house, meet Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle and attend a black-tie dinner at the home of former World War Two leader Winston Churchill - all outside London.

The US President is due to arrive on Thursday afternoon (July 12), straight from the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit.

The White House and Trump's British hosts are opting to go big on pomp and tradition, and mostly skip the current circumstances - namely, the mass demonstration against the US president planned for next Friday in central London.

He said Mr Trump and Mrs May have "a good relationship" and would discuss a wide range of topics at Chequers.

"The president is not avoiding anything", the ambassador said.

He denied that Trump was spending little time in central London to avoid demonstrators.

While Johnson emphasized the U.S.' longstanding ties with the U.K., Trump has previously taken steps that have outraged many across the pond, including retweeting videos from an anti-Islamic fringe political group and clashing with London's first Muslim mayor, Sadiq Khan, on Twitter after a terrorist attack last June.

"Trump s visit is an important moment to recognise our close relationship", a spokeswoman for May told reporters.

Announcing details of the itinerary on Friday, the United Kingdom government disclosed that Trump will attend a black-tie dinner hosted by Prime Minister Theresa May at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of the UK's celebrated wartime leader.

The event will begin with a military ceremony performed by the bands of the Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards.

The Prime Minister's spokesperson said: "We are a free and open democracy and we believe in the right to protest".

The couple will then stay at Winfield House, the United States ambassador's residence on the edge of Regent's Park in London.

"He would love to do a bilateral trade deal and he is really ready to step up on that the minute we get the go ahead to do it", Johnson said, adding that USA government agencies were already looking at how to put a deal together. "But I would also say that I think the majority of British people understand the importance of the UK-US alliance". And on his departure, Mr Trump will be "piped out" by the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

He will not be visiting Downing Street.

Instead, Trump is calling the visit a "working visit".

They will then travel to Chequers, the Prime Minister's official country retreat, for bilateral talks on foreign policy, to be followed by a news conference.

In April 2009, just months after taking office, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama met the queen at Buckingham Palace.

Trump's statement further irritated London, as many people and government officials asked May to withdraw her invitation to Trump to pay a state visit.

Mr Trump and his wife Melania plan to spend the weekend privately in Scotland, where the president owns two golf courses, before traveling to Helsinki, Finland, for a July 16 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The president is only expected to spend one evening in the capital city.
