Colombia star James Rodriguez
Colombia's World Cup campaign roared back into life with a 3-0 win over Poland in Group H on a sweltering evening at the Kazan Arena which sent the Poles tumbling out of the tournament on Sunday. Barcelona star Yerry Mina scored the opening goal for Colombia with a powerful header before Radamel Falcao bagged his first World Cup goal, which was followed by a brilliant finish from Cuadrado who burst his lungs to race past a couple of Polish defenders before finishing off a stunning effort.
Colombia faces Senegal on June 28 in the final round of matches in Group H, while Poland plays Japan.
Rodriguez's short corner eventually found Quintero, whose smart through ball back to Rodriguez gave him time and space to curl a ideal left-footed cross that Mina rose to header powerfully past Szczesny on 40 minutes.
Things may not have gone as spectacularly for Rodriguez as he would have liked since that World Cup, but he's still Colombia's best player, its creative force and one of its main goal-scoring threats.
Aiming to bounce back from a listless defeat to Senegal, Poland's switch to a 3-4-3 initially appeared to reenergise the Eagles, as an early ball into Robert Lewandowski required some strong defending from both Davinson Sanchez and Mina to thwart the frontman.
"They were seen as one of the favourite teams coming into the World Cup, so I'm expecting a very hard match, a very intense match". "We wanted to share this victory with him".
Poland set to make changes for Colombia encounter
All four teams of one of the most open groups of the ongoing Fifa World Cup - Group H will be in action on Sunday, June 24. Based on their opening match against Poland , those prognostications appear accurate.
Juan Quintero played a lovely through ball to Falcao and he did the rest in the 70th minute. Cuadrado collected the pass and rushed toward the box, timing his shot perfectly to beat goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Influential defender Glik missed Poland's opening match against Senegal due to a shoulder injury.
"We already turned the page on Japan, we cannot stay in regret - unfortunately it was lost, but we know that we have two games ahead that can give us the option of advancing in the World Cup".
Poland played well for 15 minutes but then faded.
Poland started the second half a much better side and nearly levelled matters on the hour mark when Robert Lewandowski showed great skill inside the box to bring a lofted cross under control before seeing his shot from 14 yards well-stopped by the Colombian keeper.
