To start with, it was clear he had already popped the question to Meghan - and father and daughter had several conversations before she finally put the prince on the line to ask his permission.

Given that it's only been a month since Markle officially joined the royal family, Armitage suspects that she's still finding ways for the Queen to warm up to her.

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, who tied the knot at Windsor Castle in May, certainly dressed to impress for the outing, with the duchess donning another Givenchy ensemble, which she teamed with a Philip Treacy fascinator.

Meghan was seen waving to the crowds alongside Prince Harry and Sophie Countess of Wessex as they participated in a royal carriage procession.

Since becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has often appeared in outfits that push the boundaries of royal protocol.

The couple will present the winning trophy for the 4.20pm race, the St James' Palace Stakes, said the official Royal Ascot programme.

Embracing the monochrome look, Meghan nipped her dress in at the waist with a dark belt and wore black shoes with a quirky shaped heel.

She added, "Maybe a Father's Day visit after the PR stunt said a visit would happen, would be appropriate".

The duchess took his arm and they walked over the plush grass of the parade ring to other members of the royal family and then the duke began flicking through the booklet and pointed something out to his wife.

"Their Royal Highnesses have been invited to visit the Realms of Australia and New Zealand by the countries' respective governments", Kensington Palace said in a statement at the time.

"They were very forgiving, both Harry and Meghan were very forgiving about it. Meghan said "everything is ready for you".
