Report Nets acquire Dwight Howard send Hornets Mozgov

The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to trade big man Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Timofey Mozgov, two future second-round draft picks and cash, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday, citing league sources. Shortly after, Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania confirmed the deal and the pieces being flipped.

The Brooklyn Nets are the latest team to acquire the services of center Dwight Howard.

One of those Nets picks is the 45th overall selection in Thursday's NBA Draft, while the other is said to be in 2021.

The deal is particularly fascinating because Brooklyn was able to dump Mozgov's contract, which they took exactly one year ago to the day when they acquired D'Angelo Russell from the Los Angeles Lakers. The Hornets will be Mozgov's sixth National Basketball Association team in seven seasons.

The moves brought the world's two largest economies to the verge of an all-out confrontation long feared by markets and industry. Tariffs on the remaining 114 items, including chemicals, medical equipment and energy products, will start later.

The Nets will be the fifth team that Howard has played for in his career.

He played in only 31 games last season for the Nets, averaging 4.2 points and 3.2 rebounds.

Howard has never averaged less than 29.7 minutes per season (2016-17 with the Hawks) and has come off the bench one time in 1,035 career games.

While the move allows the Hornets to unload Howard's contract and save about $7 million under this year's salary cap, it is a bit of a gamble because Mozgov has two years remaining on his current contract at $16 million per year.
