Cristiano Ronaldo celebrating his goal against Spain

The 33-year-old became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the tournament in his side's opening 3-3 draw with Spain, drawing level with Ferenc Puskas as Europe's most prolific worldwide goalscorer on 84 in the process.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, with blue captain's armband, heads the ball to score the opening goal during the group B match between Portugal and Morocco at the 2018 soccer World Cup in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia on Jun 20, 2018.

Among players from all continents, Ronaldo now trails only Ali Daei, who scored 109 goals for Iran from 1993 to 2006.

Ronaldo's four goals top the individual scoring chart at this year's World Cup.

A crude lunge from Benatia on Ronaldo left the Portugal skipper writhing around in pain, while Morocco felt aggrieved when Nordin Amrabat was hauled down by Guerreiro as he muscled his way into the area.

Sporting Lisbon winger Bruno Fernandes underwhelmed on his World Cup debut against Spain and may be replaced by Gelson Martins or Joao Mario.

Cristiano Ronaldo continued his sensational start to the World Cup with the victor as Portugal knocked Morocco out of the tournament.

Germany stunned by Mexico's 1-0 victory
Both teams were competing for the main spot of Group F, which also includes Sweden and South Korea. The four-time winners have reached at least the semi-finals at every World Cup since 2002.

"Come on, man, we're here at a World Cup, it's not a circus!"

It may have not been a spectacular display from Portugal but Ronaldo and Co will be pleased with the result following their opening draw against Spain.

"We knew if we lost we could be out", Ronaldo said.

Portugal tried to bunker down defensively late with big saves from Rui Patricio and managed to get the victory when it looked like Morocco equalize.

"With Rio Ferdinand, they were playing table tennis and Rio beat him", said Evra, who is working at the World Cup as a pundit for ITV.

Senegal, which won 2-1 against Poland, is the only African to win its first 2018 World Cup game.

The Real Madrid star followed up his hattrick against Spain on Friday with a fourth-minute header that was his 85th goal for his country in 152 games.
