Just days before the wedding, Thomas broke the news to Meghan in an emotional phone call. "I sort of disagreed with that, I still like Harry, that was his politics, I have my politics".

The father-of-the-bride admitted he has yet to meet Harry in person, but has had "interesting conversations on the phone" with him.

This wasn't the only bombshell that Markle unleashed.

In an emotional on-air message to the couple he said: "I send my love to both of them".

Thomas said in the beginning, he'd been told by Meghan that she was seeing someone new and that it was a secret.

Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, Mr Markle revealed his daughter burst into tears when he told her he could not attend the wedding due to his heart operation. "I have my politics", Markle said.

When quipped about the moment when Harry asked his daughter's hand, Markle said, "Harry asked for her hand on the phone, and I said: 'You are a gentleman".

He added: "I cried a little watching her..."

The prestigious Royal Ascot, described as the "the jewel in the crown of the British horse racing calendar", is one of the must-attend events of the year. And I feel bad about it.

Japan natural disaster : Death toll climbs after 6.1 temblor strikes Osaka
Japan's northern prefectures are still recovering from the magnitude 9.0 quake and tsunami in 2011 that killed more than 18,000. The train and subway service in and around Osaka, including the bullet train to Tokyo , was suspended while checks were made.

He said he was "jealous" but "honoured" Prince Charles ended up walking Meghan down the aisle in his place.

That advice wasn't exactly followed when Thomas staged a paparazzi photo shoot of himself searching for images of Meghan and Harry online.

Prince Charles stepped in to be Meghan's aisle escort at the big wedding instead. I cried a little bit about it, but she was so lovely walking down that aisle and so proud and so gorgeous.

His ex-wife Doria Ragland was subsequently the only member of her family to attend the service, and Thomas said she did "very well" but he wishes she was sitting with someone in St George's Chapel.

He also said the sixth in line to the throne appeared "open" to the idea of Brexit when they had a "loose" talk about it.

"It might have been a treat for him as well because he didn't have a daughter". I was very proud. "That upsets me somewhat", he told ITV's "Good Morning Britain" in a video interview from the US.

He said he thought the couple, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, would probably have children soon.

In Thomas' chat, though, he heaped praise on Meghan, saying she's "a prize to [Harry], as well..."
