Nabil Fekir had chosen shirt number before £53m transfer collapsed

Lyon issue official statement on Liverpool's transfer move for Nabil Fekir

This delay has seemingly ended Liverpool's hopes of completing the deal prior to the World Cup.

Olympique Lyonnais have put an end to negotiations with Liverpool for the proposed transfer of Nabil Fekir.

The two clubs had agreed terms for a £48 million transfer, rising in add-ons, but since Friday there has been speculation that Fekir either failed a medical or the Reds wanted a second opinion on a knee injury suffered more than two years ago.

In fact, latest reports from RMC Sport claim that the French global has already passed his medical in France, and Liverpool could announce his arrival later today.

With France scheduled to play the United States tonight and then fly off to Russian Federation ahead of the World Cup, it now appears the 24-year-old will remain at Lyon, at least until after the tournament. "He's in the middle of negotiations and I think it's done", the FFF president said. Jurgen Klopp, in particular, will be delighted to have secured the signing of Fekir, should the transfer go through.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford , making only his third global appearance, hardly had a save to make in the first half. Kane said: "It was a good win against a tough side". "The first lesson is we are not ready yet".

The report also suggests that Fekir was so close to joining Anfield that he had even selected his shirt number but now claims a deal between Liverpool and Lyon is "difficult to imagine".

Fekir enjoyed a career-best season with Lyon in Ligue 1, scoring 18 times in 30 games and supplying a further eight assists. He joins the list alongside the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho with the Reds still being expected to continue their spending spree this summer.

Liverpool's medical staff flew out to Paris on Thursday, and Le Graet said they have examined the 24-year-old: "He had his medical visit at Clairefontaine". That's logical, we've done it for other players.

Now, despite owner Jean-Michel Aulas having previously stated no deal would be done this side of the World Cup, the French outfit have declared the move completely dead.
