Isolated Kim Jong-Un takes big gamble leaving home for summit

There's just no recent precedent for the gamble Kim Jong Un is taking.

President Donald Trump had some thoughts Saturday afternoon as he was leaving Canada on his way to Singapore for the much-touted U.S. - North Korea summit.

His father was born in North Korea and escaped as a young child and the pair are hopeful the meeting could pave the way for reunification between the two Koreas.

There are worries from some quarters about Kim's intentions and his willingness to actually follow through on any commitment he might make in Singapore.

He said the police officers who stopped him at Singapore's Changi Airport searched his bags and questioned him for about two hours before letting him go. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.

At the same time, the USA president thinks that Kim Jong-un can make North Korea great.

Three years of bloodshed ended on July 27, 1953, but the war technically continues today because instead of a difficult-to-negotiate peace treaty, military officers for the US -led United Nations, North Korea and China signed an armistice that halted the fighting. "As a deal person, that is important".

Another, more limited result could be a North Korean agreement to freeze its missile and nuclear tests in return for USA sanctions relief and security assurance.

Kim's biggest success this year was getting the meeting with Trump.

Trump and Kim can also silence skeptics in Washington, Seoul and Tokyo, Yun wrote, by producing "a clear timeline for the ultimate goal: the disablement and dismantlement of all North Korean nuclear and ICBM facilities, material and devices".

Melania Trump not going to Canada, Singapore: spokeswoman
The first lady did attend the G7 summit in Sicily a year ago , making headlines on her debut worldwide trip as first lady. The White House announced four days later that Mrs Trump had been treated in hospital for a kidney condition.

"Everyone I know here is very excited. It's about attitude", Trump said of the summit before meeting Thursday with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. "It's about attitude. It's about willingness to get things done".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reiterated U.S. calls for North Korea to completely rid itself of all remnants of its nuclear weapons program before global sanctions are lifted on the pariah nation.

The diplomatic initiatives leading to the summit started in late April when Kim met South Korean President Moon Jae-in and the leaders of the rival states pledged to end hostility and establish peace on the Korean peninsula. That would be illegal, under the 2016 law, unless North Korea also agrees to key human rights reforms.

Kim Jong Un's motivation for a treaty may be, in part, linked to eventually getting US troops - 28,500 of them - out of the southern part of the peninsula; many believe that the North sees this as the first step in paving the way for a single Korea ruled by Pyongyang.

"I feel that Kim Jong Un wants to do something great for his people", Trump said.

Another North Korea expert from the Bush administration, Victor Cha, noted that only Trump has raised troop presence as a possible negotiating point. So that is two successes for the U.S. - one large and one small.

Trump on Saturday doubled down on his promise that the U.S.

The one thing it is impossible for North Koreans to understand, however, is how big the difference in prosperity is between their country and developed nations like the United States and South Korea. The level of concern is higher, though, in Japan, another US treaty ally in Asia with much at stake.

That flight was likely carrying North Korean officials.
