Defender Vincent Kompany will require a scan to determine if he can play in the World Cup in Russian Federation after injuring his groin during Belgium's goalless draw with Portugal in a friendly on Saturday (June 2).

Kompany walked off the pitch without waiting to be substituted early in the second half after he overstretched in a challenge on Gelson Martins.

"The situation is very clear, we're going to use the rules to our advantage".

Belgium manager, Roberto Martinez boasts of a plethora of talent, including the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Vincent Kompany, Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

Belgium begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 18 and Martinez will give Kompany as much time as possible to regain his fitness.

Ancelotti a 'real coup' for Napoli as Insigne thanks Sarri
He was reported to have recently turned down the opportunity to coach the Italian national side to stay in club football. Napoli manager Sarri, has been continuously linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

Martínez also named Los Angeles FC defender Laurent Ciman as a reserve in case Kompany's injury proves too serious for him to play in Russian Federation.

"We need to wait a period of seven, eight days with Kompany".

"He is a true leader - his leadership is essential for us", the Spaniard added. Martinez's team plays Panama, Tunisia and England in Group G in Russian Federation. He performed in a fantastic manner when he was on the pitch.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes there are four front-runners to win the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer.

Matz Sels and Christian Kabasele have also been left out of the final 23, as has Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, a decision Martinez described as the toughest he had to make. "But we wanted to take two No. 9s for the balance of the squad".
