Xiaomi launches Mi 8 with notch display, Snapdragon 845

Xiaomi hasn't even bothered to do that with the Mi 8. Before the 8th Anniversary Mi flagship model, we were introduced to the Mi Mix 2 and the Redmi S2.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 has a 6.21-inch (2248 x 1080-pixel) AMOLED screen with a borderless design and a notch-style cutout. The front-facing camera is a 20-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture, 1.8-micron pixels and shoots Full HD videos.

The Mi 8's rear camera is 12MP+ 12MP. As of the processor, the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz. It wasn't until two years later, though, when Xiaomi wowed the industry with its pioneering bezel-less Mi Mix that it finally shed that label. The standard edition comes with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

While it still retained all the previous features like the time, step counter, smartphone unlock, alarm, sleep, heart-rate and calories monitor and some event notifications, the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 adds caller ID, with an ability to reject or answer calls, instant message display for WeChat, QQ and other apps, as well as Bluetooth 4.2, and a version with NFC chip (priced at CNY 199), which will also allow wireless paying. The phone binds the traditional L1 frequency, used in other phones with the L5 frequency, used mostly by the aeronautical industry.

Xiaomi claims the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is the first Android device to feature three-dimensional face unlock, using infrared light (the first device ever being the iPhone X, of course).

A Euro Exit Strategy for Italy: No Planning Allowed?
Since then, both Di Maio and Salvini have repeatedly stressed they do not want to leave the euro. Markets reacted with relief to the prospect of a political government.

Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi showed off all kinds of shiny new devices at a launch event in Shenzhen today, chief among them the Mi 8, the latest in the company's series of line of high-end Android handsets. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition, which sits above the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE in the company's lineup, is an impressive bit of kit, packing 3D face unlock, like the iPhone X, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, which you can't get on a major rival right now, and a transparent back, which gives you a nice look at what's inside the device.

One final software trick that could be useful, or creepy, depending on who you are: the Mi 8's camera system has a new beautifying mode that Xiaomi chairman Lei Jun says is like getting "digital cosmetic surgery".

The Xiaomi Mi 8 and the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE will go on sale in China starting on June 5, and June 8 respectively.

As always, the global prices of the Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, and Mi 8 Explorer Edition will be slightly higher than their prices in China, but we don't have any details on that front for now. There's no word yet on global roll out.
