The AP said Gassama arrived in Europe after crossing the Mediterranean from Libya to Italy.

In less than a minute, a man scaled a Paris building to save a young boy hanging off a fourth-floor balcony.

"I saved the child and then went inside the building and I was shaking", he told Macron.

Accustomed to keeping his head down and staying out of trouble, Gassama said he didn't think of his legal status when he sprang to action. "And thank God, I saved him", he added.

"I had no means to live and no-one to help me", Gassama, who followed an older brother to France, explained to Macron.

"My God, I was very shocked".

Two days after his daring Spiderman-style rescue - viewed millions of times online - Mamoudou Gassama was received by Macron at the presidential palace.

"Because this is an exceptional act ... we are obviously, today, going to regularize all your papers", Macron told him, also offering to begin naturalization procedures so he can become French.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo called the 22-year-old to thank him and later praised him on Twitter.

How Philip Roth's Writing Transcended The Narrow Confines Of A Culture
The New York Times , citing a close friend, confirmed the death of the writer, who lived in New York and CT . In 2014, he declared after a reading at New York's 92nd Street Y that he was done with public appearances.

The video shows him pulling himself up from balcony to balcony as a man on the fourth floor tries to hold on to the child by leaning across from a neighbouring balcony.

The child's father, who had left the four-year-old alone at the time of the incident, is being investigated by authorities to determine if he is guilty of neglect.

"On Saturday night Mamoudou Gassama performed what everyone is France is describing as an act of extreme bravery", says euronews correspondent Anelise Borges. "You need courage and the capability to do that".

The boy's mother was not home either, Molins said, because she was visiting France's Réunion Island, in the Indian Ocean, with family members.

His official permit allowing him to work will arrive within a month, and his citizenship papers in about three months, officials said Tuesday.

Gassama felt fear when he took the child into the apartment.

"It raises a lot of questions when you know what this government is doing".

The father has been charged with "failure to meet parental obligations" and could face up to two years in prison if found guilty at trial, which is now scheduled for September.
