The Red Devils have been starved of a tempo-dictating centre midfielder since peak Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, and Fred has all the attributes to be a top-quality addition to the United middle-ground as Carrick departs.

"You know that we had negotiations with Manchester City this winter and there was an official offer, a very big figure. My agents are taking care of this".

Manchester United appears ready to dip into the transfer market.

Fred is now in Brazil training with the national team ahead of this summer's World Cup, but will crucially be in England in just over a weeks time as Brazil play Croatia at Anfield, a ground less than 30 miles from Manchester United's Carrington training base.

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld is also reported to be on United's wanted list, with defenders Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian, midfielders Juan Mata and Marouane Fellani, as well as forward Anthony Martial all tipped to leave this summer. However, no move materialized at that moment as Pep Guardiola & co. ended their interest and are instead working on signing Jorginho from Napoli.

Senate saves net neutrality, now onto the House
Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., and Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., both voted with the entire Democratic caucus in support of the legislation. The congressional effort comes less than a month before the rules are officially expected to expire, on June 11.

However, reports are now claiming Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Fred.

"We'll get exactly the amount he costs", Akhmetov told the Shakhtar website.

"So we will touch our squad but more than spend, spend, spend, we believe in the evolution of our players".

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has prioritised the signing of a midfielder, and spoke to the media earlier this month, stating that he thinks football clubs are "incomplete" without a Brazilian player.

Fernandinho left Shakhtar for Manchester City in 2013 for €40m while Alex Teixeira joined Jiangsu Suning three years later for €50m, and a deal worth more than that for Fred would break the Donetsk outfit's record for transfer fee received.
