The last Star Trek movie, Star Trek Beyond, was released in 2016, grossing $158 million domestically and $184 million overseas. Ava DuVernay is now developing a movie based on DC Comics' The New Gods for Warner Bros., while indie filmmaker Cathy Yan last week was hired to helm a pic based on DC anti-heroine Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey comic book characters.

Details surrounding "Star Trek 4" are being kept under wraps for now, but the studio announced the story was being developed around Chris Hemsworth, who played dad to Chris Pine's Captain Kirk in 2009's "Star Trek".

"It really is an incredible story". Sources now say the film is being written and would not debut until after Star Trek 4.
