Ahead of Assembly elections Congress appoints Kamal Nath its Madhya Pradesh party chief

The Congress on Thursday appointed seasoned campaigner Kamal Nath head of the party unit in election-bound Madhya Pradesh.

Party MP Jyotiraditya Scindia has been appointed Chairman of the Campaign Committee.

Party insiders acknowledged that the MP Congress has been divided between the camps of Scindia, Kamal Nath and two-term chief minister Digvijaya Singh. The party also named four working presidents - Tribal leader Bala Bacchan, senior legislator Ramnivas Rawat, Indore MLA Jitu Patwari and leader Surendra Chaudhary.

"I have obeyed the directives of Congress President Rahul Gandhi and would continue to do so", Mr Yadav told media at the state Congress office here. The decision comes a few months before the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections scheduled later this year.

"It is not about Congress or any other leader".

Kamal Nath thanked both Rahul and Sonia Gandhi for reposing trust in him and said he would work together with all party leaders in the state to bring down the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

In a bid to thwart Scindia's ambitions, AICC General Secretary Digvijaya Singh has thrown his weight behind Kamal Nath- who he often describes as his "elder brother".

Saquon Barkley My Baby Was Born ... 2 Days Before Draft!
For months and months on end all the talking heads have been discussing which quarterbacks will go where on Thursday's draft. His time with the Giants seems up, and it would not be surprising to see him moved this weekend during the draft.

Scindia has previously served as chairman of the campaign committee ahead of 2013 polls.

The appointment of four working presidents is being seen as a balancing act in the faction-ridden party keeping in mind regional, caste and loyalty factors. "The party is well aware that politics in the state could never be managed from the "Mahal" (Scindia's fort)", reacted Jha. Mr Nath himself hails from the Mahakoshal region, while Mr Scindia is from the Gwalior-Chambal region.

Asked his view on his not being a pan-Madhya Pradesh leader like current Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, he said that this is something which the people of the state will decide.

Recently, Singh concluded his arduous 3,300-km Narmada parikrama that went on for nearly six months.

Meanwhile, the party also appointed Girish Chodankar as the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief for Goa, replacing Shantaram Naik who had resigned a few days ago.

Soon after his appointment, Nath assured to work with full dedication to defeat the "non-secular parties".
