The Indian Army paid tribute to Ajay Kumar, a sepoy who died during an encounter with militants in Lam forests of Tral on Tuesday (April 24) morning. "Apparently it looks like the slain militants are foreigners and belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammad militant outfit", he said, adding that the search operation in the area was still on.

Seven people were killed in a day-long gun battle in Tral, south of Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, the Indian army said.

Fadi Mohammad al-Batsh's corpse was set to be flown to Egypt later in the day before being transported on to Gaza for burial. The pictures show two light-skinned, bearded men, one of whom was wearing glasses and a white and black helmet.

Officials said the militants managed to escape towards the higher reaches but the security forces chased them deep inside a forest and killed them in a gunfight.

In the encounter that ensued, which went on for almost three hours, four militants were gunned down. The security forces have cordoned off the area.

The exchange of fire is still said to be underway at Lam forest area of Tral, said reports. A mopping up operation in the woods is underway, he said.

An army man and a cop were also killed and two army men wounded in the gunfight.
