WWE Legend Bruno Sammartino Dies at Age 82

WWE wrote on their website: "WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino passed away at age 82". The only details on his passing at this time are that he'd been battling health issues for the past several months, and that he died peacefully. Born in 1935 and raised in the town of Abruzzi, Italy, Sammartino moved to Pittsburgh in 1950, where his parents were already living at the time, as noted by Cleveland.com.

His first reign of 2,803 days (May 1963-January 1971) is the longest single reign for the company's signature title, while his second reign of 1,237 days (December 1973-April 1977) is the fifth-longest in the world of the heavyweight championship.

After his career as a wrestler, Sammartino remained close with the WWE, serving as a commentator and mentor, before his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

Sammartino struck a cord with those who could relate to his struggles, including Peter Gene Hernandez, whose father nicknamed him "Bruno" by his father due to the resemblance to Bruno Sammartino.

Even during a time when the prestige of territorial wrestling championships still meant something thanks to how little they changed hands compared to today, Sammartino still stands alone for his longevity and consistency as a top draw.

Sean Hannity disputes Michael Cohen claim he was a client
On his show Monday night, Hannity said his involvement with Cohen was related to matters involving real estate . That is to say, Hannity says he never paid a retainer or other legal fees or even saw an invoice from Cohen.

Sammartino enjoyed rivalries against fellow WWE Hall of Famers such as Killer Kowalski, Gorilla Monsoon and George "The Animal" Steele.

Sammartino, who was 83, began wrestling in the late 1950s and spent more than a decade as the most popular wrestler in the old WWWF. However, there is no doubt that he was one of the most important performers in the history of professional wrestling, and the legacy that he is leaving behind will be felt for many years to come. Today he is better known as Bruno Mars.

The wrestler is survived by his wife Carol and his sons David, Darryl and Dan Sammartino. "A true friend.and one of the toughest people I've ever met", Levesque tweeted.
