Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Boston Bruins - 4/16/18 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Boston Bruins

In other words, Cassidy is about to have to tell players who have helped the B's win two playoff games that they'll have to watch at least the next one.

The Sharks won both games in Southern California to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference opening-round series.

Pastrnak added his second of the night with 7:26 remaining in the third when he was allowed to walk out from behind the net untouched after Marchand lost the handle on a breakaway.

Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock had a brief answer when asked Sunday what needed to be done against the Bruins' top line.

David Pastrnak had the game of his life Saturday night.

A Boston power play that went 3 for 6 in the opener then went to work after Toronto was penalized for too many men on the ice, with DeBrusk outmuscling Leafs defenceman Nikita Zaitev, who would be on for all four first-period goals, in front to redirect Krug's feed past Andersen at 9:46. The Sharks scored three straight-capped off by a highlight reel goal by Tomas Hertl-to build a lead, but Anaheim fought back. And only three of those single-game standout performances have come in the post-lockout era. That remains to be seen, but if the Leafs were to lose again, Babcock would sleep a lot easier knowing he did everything in his power to shutdown Bergeron-Marchand-Pastrnak in a good old-fashioned battle of best-on-best. Faceoffs, 200-foot game, matchup guy, kills penalties.

One player on that top line, in particular, brought something special to the table.

Thanks to injuries and inexperience, David Pastrnak was thrust into a top-heavy lineup with Marchand and Bergeron during last year's first-round loss to the Ottawa Senators. That tied Phil Esposito's record for points after two games in a playoff series.

Lirot said he will file a motion as soon as Thursday asking Gievers to lift the stay. He denied that NY is behind other states.

Pastrnak (21 years, 324 days) is the youngest player in National Hockey League history to score six points in a playoff game, eclipsing the mark set by Wayne Gretzky (22 years, 81 days) in Game 3 of the 1983 division final. What adjustments should they make?

Bergeron's line isn't just producing, it's dominating possession.

It's a ridiculously balanced lineup and for as much pressure as the Devils were able to put on late on Saturday (starting when the game was already 5-1 on the scoreboard) they just don't have the firepower to consistently match that. To say that he hasn't learned anything from the dynamic Bergeron-Marchand duo is an understatement.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Six points in a Stanley Cup Playoff game with a hat trick?"

"We know it is going to be a challenge just like it was a challenge for them to come here", said Cassidy. Take the lessons, what they have for you. Try to get him thinking about stuff other than hockey because he's so tough to defend and he's all over the puck and tough to knock off it. The rest was power play time for the diminutive D-man as centered a pass to Jake DeBrusk for Boston's second goal of the game, and then fed Rick Nash for his own big man's move down low where he looked big, strong and surprisingly fast with good, fresh skating legs that haven't been part of the regular season pounding for the last month. Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen allowed three goals on five shots before being replaced by backup Curtis McElhinney (19 saves) with 7:47 left in the opening period.

The Bruins' top line got all the headlines and deservingly so. Even if a lot of that may have simply been the result of the Lightning sitting back with a three-goal lead entering the period, New Jersey still didn't go away without a fight and made things a little tense for home crowd. Andersen gave up five goals in Game 1 on Thursday night while giving up rebounds, and finally having surrendered a bad angle David Krejci goal that was banked off his back and into the net.

The Leafs actually had a better start than Thursday when they were almost run out of the rink in the game's first 10 minutes, but the Bruins grabbed the lead at 5:26 when Pastrnak picked up the puck in front of Andersen and made a slick move to score his second goal of the series.
